Kabbalah Kronicles 11 – The Air in Israel

The Kabbalah Kronicles 11 The Air in Israel

“The air in Israel makes you smarter.”

That’s what Rabbi Itchy, our Kabbalah teacher,  told me before my first trip there, back in 1996, fifteen years ago.

It sounded as crazy to me then, as it probably does to you now.

Well, for the two weeks that Rabbi Itchy and traveled Israel, I slept four hours a night or less. It wasn’t jet lag. I simply could not quiet my thoughts. My mental energy had increased dramatically. At the point where I stopped thinking about a subject when I was in the States, I continued thinking about it when I was in Israel, and the thoughts speeded up.

When we returned to the United States, I stepped out of the plane from Tel Aviv into the air of New York City, one of the most exciting places on earth, and received a second surprise:

I could feel my thought processes slow back down to “normal.”

It was not a pleasant feeling. It was like coming down from a drug high.

Now many of you probably think I lost my mind, just like I thought Rabbi Itchy lost it when he first told me about the Israeli air. I have spoken about this phenomenon with native Israelis, and they also think I’ve lost my mind. Yet, many of those same Israelis complain that food doesn’t have any taste when they travel to America – not like in Israel. They don’t understand that the food is relatively the same in both lands, but because their brain is more energetic in Israel, their senses are heightened.

The air in Israel also affects the animals that live there. Dogs don’t need a leash – they’re too smart to run away. They’ll come up to you, take a quick sniff, and saunter away, the look on their face saying, “You ain’t so special.” Cats don’t pay you any mind, either. They are too busy being fruitful and multiplying, the first instructions from God in the Bible.

And don’t let an Israeli fly barge into your house – you won’t be able to get rid of it. It’ll die of natural causes before you can squash it with a rolled up newspaper.

If it still feels like I’ve lost my mind, then forget what Rabbi Itchy and I told you about the air in Israel. Instead, ask yourself the following question:

Why have people been killing each other over Israel for over 3,500 years?

Is it the size of the country? No. It’s  diminutive, the size of the state of New Jersey, and the U.S. has 49 more states.

Is the country full of natural resources? Not the kind we value now. (Although God states in the Bible that He hid great wealth in the land of Israel, He wasn’t specific about what kind of wealth it was, or where it was.)

Is the country spectacularly beautiful compared to the Seven Wonders of the World? Guess again. Israel is beautiful, but its physical beauty is not overwhelming – it’s more subtle.

Does controlling Israel offer any strategic military advantage over the lands of Asia or Africa, which it connects?

No, not really. You can fly over Israel in a few minutes, or sail right by it, on your way to  conquering  Africa or Asia.

So what is there about this land? It ranks second in the world in technology, only to be surpassed by the United States, yet it has less than two percent of the population of the U.S.. Check out the statistics on Israeli medical and agricultural patents, computer software and hardware development, and military technology, and you will be amazed.

Put simply, the number one export of Israel is brain power. Why? Because of the air.

And because of that air, I am sitting here in my home in the Shomron region of Israel, at 3:00 AM, writing this blog, after getting four hours of sleep each of the last four days.

But don’t believe me. Come and see for yourself.

Now, in the next blog Rabbi Itchy is going to talk about love and Kabbalah.

Should be a great Klass … if I ever get some sleep.
